I love myself when
Sep. 30th, 2001 04:56 amI am crafting. I'm so *sure* of myself and my actions. In a lot of my life, I'm very much like Boo-Boo. "Gee, Yogi, I dunno." I do try to keep that as internal as possible, but I still dislike it hugely.
But, when I'm making something, I just...*know*. I'm currently working on a wreath for our front door...the light blue flowers were far too large, so I'm using the dark blue and some white ones I had in the vase on the dining room table, along with a rope of ivy. And I know how to do this. I know where the flowers should go, I know when a bare spot is good and when it needs a leaf. I can tell if something is going to work, and when it'll make everything fall down.
I know, its not brain surgery...but I'm *good* at this. I'm *really* good at making stuff. I can't express how much this helps, in so many areas. I love knowing, roughly, how the piece will look when I'm done, and I love knowing how to make the components do what I want. I also like making changes, on the spot, and taking the piece in a completely different direction.
After the wreath's finished, I'm going to make some barrettes and then...who knows?
Tomorrow, we're going to start moving the furniture around...I've figured out that, if we switch the dining room table with the desk, we'll have *so* much more room...also, the desk and bookcases together will make what's currently the dining area a very definite room. And, without this *very* solid piece of furniture here, the living room's going to feel quite airy.
I'll be able to do a lot of the food prep while sitting at the table, which will be a huge help...I love cooking, but my back isn't thrilled with the whole "Standing on a tile floor for hours" thing. This year, I should be able to actually *make* cookies for Holidays, rather than just wish I could. :)
