myschyf: (Autumn)
We went out yesterday (yeah, I actually *left* the house. Didn't know that still happened, dija?;) to do major shopping. And I left my list at home. So, I am downright impressed that I managed to get all the pieces for Sam's fairy costume.

Sammy and I went to the craft store, which would have been more fun if the carts were slightly higher...they're just low enough that they kill my back. Yay :p. But we had a good time. She picked out some craft kits and a couple of things that will end up as Yulemas gifts. We found sheaves of autumny leaves as we walked into the place in whitish yellow, green, red and that wonderful deep autumny yellow-brown. We found a princess headband kit that I'll easily be able to convert into a H'ween fairy headband and I picked up a blank t-shirt.

At K'mart, I found the *best* little gauzy skirt. It's black and very swishy, just what I'd envisioned. It was a size too big, but taking it in was *no* big deal at all. And if she grows a bit between now and the big day, it's a stretchy waistband, so it won't be a problem.

We had the worst time finding the hoodie and tights. Silly us, we thought they'd be with the *clothes*. But they weren't. So, Sam and I hung out in the slipper aisle (there are nine thousand choices, so it takes her a while), Jeff went to look for a hoodie & tights. He found a couple hoodies, but they were gray and had stuff written on them which would be difficult to cover up. Then he found one in shades of blue with nothing written on it. And it's heavy duty, so she wont' turn into a Samsicle. Yay!

Still couldn't find the tights...and then, all of a sudden, he did. Double yay! Later, we found a display of seriously heavy tights, so, she's got quite a variety to choose from. Which is good, 'cause she insists on wearing dresses at times when dresses just aren't going to keep her warm. Tights are a must.

The three of us sat in the slipper aisle (on benches) and tried to recreate the fairy costume list, to make sure we had everything. Sammy said "OH! Flowers!" I said "I looked when we were at Michael's, but they didn't have any that were small enough." We started wandering through the store again, and came across the fake flower aisle...and found two bunches of little autumny flowers, in burgundy and purple. It was like a miracle! Or...something. :)

I started working on the skirt last night. Took it in (after trying it on Sammy and convincing her that sticking out her tummy was *not* helping) and started sewing the leaves to the bottom. I'll add more to the body of the skirt as well. I'm about a third of a way around, and it's coming together beautifully...it looks and moves exactly the way I'd envisioned. This makes me all happy and bouncy. :)

I also remembered to get her a heavy-duty gift bag, which we will decorate and she'll use to hold her loot.

I love it when a plan comes together. *Grin*

Dear Powers That Be,

Please turn on the sky.

I don't feel like I'm completely awake. If I shuffled back to bed, I think I'd fall right asleep.
