I was listening to "I am a Rock" while Sam was working on her postcards. She looked up and said "How can a rock sing?" Which led to an interesting discussion about what we say and what we mean. Though, to save time, I should have cited the Muppets...I'm sure a rock has sung there at least once. ;)

I have a skin thingie called Vitiligo. I won't call it a disease and "condition" sounds so serious. All it means is that there are patches of skin on my body (mainly hands/arms and feet for me) that have no pigment. It also means that I've had white in my hair since I was about seven. (And an abiding need to smack people who say "You have gray in your hair!" No shit, really? It's *my* head, doofus. I notice what's happening. *AND* it's white, not gray, 'cause gray would suggest pigment." Luckily, as one gets older, people don't comment as much.)

Now that I'm all old and stuff, the white that...hmm. I don't know how to write this correctly. I was going to say "The white that would be there naturally" but vitiligo isn't unnatural...just kind of weird. Anyway, the "because I'm in my thirties" white hair has joined the other white hair, which leaves me with a *lot*. And a few nights ago, I noticed a purely white lock of hair right next to my left ear. It's wild, 'cause I never noticed it before...and it's a pretty big piece of hair. I wonder if I had a tiny fright...just enough to turn that much white. *grin*

I don't mind the white hair...I've certainly had plenty of time to get used to it. I'll be coloring my hair again soon, not because I want to hide the white strands but because I found this marvelous shade of plum that intrigues me. I wonder how much more of it will be white when it grows out. It's all very interesting.

I'm pretty sure I wrote a post about how I have vitiligo and Michael Jackson doesn't (for many varied reasons), but I can't find it now. If you're very interested in reading me yell about this, I think it was before we moved here but after we moved to Severn, so sometime between October of 2003 and July of 2005.

Via [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj, go here, send the Cat in the Hat a birthday card and Random House will donate a book to First Book.

First Book is a great charity. And they don't send me address labels.

Don't get me wrong. I *like* address labels. But, I'm getting them left, right and center. At least once a week. Even if we *were* going to live here forever I'd never be able to use them all. Oh, poor me, wah, wah, wah.

Bloody stupid isp. It took *forever* to get connected today. One day, as ghu is my witness, I will have high speed internet access again.
