Verdant Power has been testing the use of underwater turbines in New York’s East River for the past few weeks, with the goal of adding hundreds or even thousands of turbines to help address the city’s power needs.
There’s just one minor problem - the current is so powerful that the turbines are snapping like twigs. While the turbines have been temporarily removed, Verdant is hopeful that a redesign will allow for greater power generation with fewer malfunctions.
I hope they can strengthen the turbines, 'cause this sounds very promising.

Yeah, I know. I've been doing the "lots of links, very little about Gessi" thing again. And while I do *like* sharing the things I find, not knowing what else to say is frustrating.

Sam got up to go to the bathroom last night, while her dad and I were still awake, and called down the stairs that it was too hot to sleep. I mentioned that she'd *been* asleep and that it was cooling down a *lot*, and she'd be comfortable if she laid in bed and didn't cover up. She said "If I don't cover up, I will get cold!". I told her I didn't think that was going to be much of a problem. So, she went back to bed.
When I go up to bed, I always eyeball the kid, blow her a kiss and then go into our room. Last night, I could hardly see her in the bed. I went for a closer look and she was covered with the sheet, a blanket and the fake fur throw my parents had sent her. I pulled them off, and her back was *slick* with sweat. No wonder she's been having trouble sleeping! I'm amazed she got to sleep at all.
I know for a fact that she and I had a discussion about covering up. I understand wanting to be covered...I wasn't able to sleep without the sheet at least over my middle till I was in my twenties. But it's *AUGUST*, and though it isn't in the high nineties or the triple digits any longer, it's certainly not chilly. So, this weekend, we're buying the fans I've been wanting, and tonight, before she goes up, she and I will have a talk about overheating, while her dad steals all the non-sheet covers from her room. 'Cause I'd like to avoid a big scene and she's so prone to them right now. I'll explain what her dad's doing, but by the time she goes up, it'll be done. Hopefully, this will reduce drama.
