This Flickr Stormtrooper pool is too much fun.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here before...I know darthgeek and I have discussed it.

When I happen upon those dating site commercials (the ones on tv, not banner ads), I'm struck once more by the fact that there's no way they'd have matched Jeff and I up. And, the more I think about it, the more people I tick off the "match up" list...including my mom and stepfather. Hell, if you wrote both relationships out, nobody would have thought either would have gotten past the first month, let alone the first year, let alone the *twenty* years my parents have and the ten for Jeff and I.

This isn't an anti-dating-service thing. But it's something I think about every time.

When Sammy was a tiny baby, her favorite song was the Law & Order theme (original flavor). When it started, it got her full attention. Once, she was three or four months old, and nursing. The show started, she de-latched and turned her head toward the tv. When the song ended, she calmly turned back to nursing. It was kind of perfect.

Oh wild! Writing in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers report finding relatives of Geochelone elephantopus alive and well.

Cross-breeding these living tortoises might re-create the extinct species - though it could take a century. [...]"We might need three or four generations to do this," she told BBC News.

"But in theory it could be done, and I think it's pretty exciting to bring back from the dead a genome that we thought was gone."
