I'm surprised you remembered the Merv Griffin Show appearance in so much detail. Yeah, that was the day I was 'gob-smacked' so to speak by the personality known as BARRYMANILOW (all one word). We went out that very evening and bought the album he was pushing. And the rest is history.
One slight correction though, Mama came to like Barry on her own. I can't remember the song that 'got' her though. I do know it's on the LIVE album, cuz I remember she and Auntie Ellen visiting us in Richmond and asking me to play it.
I only make the distinction between Mama finding Barry on her own & my infecting her - cuz reading your post I was starting to feel like a musical Typhoid Mary. *grin* I'd have to start signing things "Maniloonie Sharon". Come to think of it that's pretty much my nickname now.
Gee, I wonder if your tree *is* still there. That part of Sterling has been so developed since we lived there I'll bet at least 80 houses have been built on those 40 acres. Probably more. I doubt I could even find that gravel road we lived on. Shoot, the mailing address was something like RRT 1 Box 212.
