I wish fast food places would start giving out glasses again. I really *liked* the ones I used to have. Ah well, the thrift store is my friend and one day, I will either find Muppet glasses there or get 'em off e-bay.
~~~
Listening to Under The Bridge on a dark night with rain hitting the windows is just perfect.
~~~
I always kind of worry when an e-bay auction subject says "NICE!" after the subject. Y'know, I assumed the item was nice...till the extra pains were taken to assure me of that fact. Now...I'm less sure.
But I'm contrary like that. *grin*
~~~
I finished my first fleece hat! YAY! It took me roughly six hours (hand-sewing), but I'd never done it before, and that included cutting the bits out, so the next one might take less time. It was for Sammy, and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. Now I can have her wear it around and if she doesn't destroy it, I'll know my work is sturdy enough for regular mortals. *grin*
Pictures will be coming. One day. After I take them and stuff.
1. If you could live anywhere (say your Mom would move there, too, 'cause I know you want to be by her), where would it be and why?
San Diego or San Francisco. (And hey, SD would be good, 'cause she already lives there. *Grin*) SD first, 'cause more of my heart lives there, but if Jeff or I got a good opportunity in the Bay Area or we were left a house or something, we could be outrageously happy up there.:)
2. If you had to pick a color besides purple or black, what would it be (and why)?
Silveryblue. I didn't really notice it till we were at the fabric store last weekend, but it draws my eye. And in looking at my sewing supplies, I've got more blue (non-embroidery) thread in that shade than anything save black. Blues have always been among my favorite colors, but I'm not really sure why that one "speaks" to me. It's shiny though...even when it isn't. *Grin*
3. What is your favorite kind of tree (and why)?
My tree, which may not actually exist any longer. When I was a little girl (from mid-seven to early ten), we lived out in the sticks. Little tiny house, big yard/woods (this was where my Laura Ingalls fantasies were lived out. Especially since we had a wood burning stove for heat and I got to gather and split the chunks. There was even a bit about that *IN* the Little House books. All I needed was a bonnet. *Grin*). There was a tree in the front yard that I climbed from the start. It forked at just the right place to cradle me, and I spent many a day there, reading. That is my favorite tree. :)
4. Why do you want to have more than one child? (Not just an idle question; I'm thinking about it myself right now. :)
Well. My pregnancy in 2002 was not planned, but we thought it was a great idea when Fishie made herself known. After I lost her, I wanted her back terribly. Which is why I wouldn't let myself attempt pregnancy. You can't bring someone back, not even a spirit. If the spirit wants to come back, sie will, but there's no forcing the issue. And I never want to be dissapointed in my children because they're not who I want them to be, in any sense of the word. So, I worked on it. And for a while thought I didn't want another kid. But, now it feels right...something inside tells me that two is the right number for me. If I don't get pregnant again, maybe I'll call the dog Two...but, I truly long for a second kid, whoever sie turns out to be. And Sammy's been talking about her "Little brother or sister" for years now. Which doesn't mean there won't be any sibling rivary, but probably cuts down on it. And she's old enough now to (hopefully) understand "I will read to you, I promise, but I need to finish {thingie with sibling} first." Which should help in the infant days.
5. What's the full story behind the Barry Manilow thing?
*grin* The full story starts in 1970-somethingorother. Pretty much when my chronological memory starts...but I don't remember what *year* my chronological memory starts. I think it was 1974...ish. Barry was on...Merv Griffen? I don't think Phil Donahue (one of my favorite people) was on the air yet...and I'm pretty sure the host was a guy. Anyway, I remember Barry singing and my mother watching raptly. She bought his album soon after that and while we listened to other music all throughout my childhood, Barry was the centerpiece. With a start like that, I was either gonna love him or hate him...nothing in between. I went with love...I even paid my own way in the fan club when I was ten or eleven. *grin* He was one of my longest lasting dad-crushes.
Fast forward to the early Oughts. I've found that, when I'm lonely for my mom, Barry's music helps. And that my toddler/pre-schooler likes him. A *lot* (it didn't hurt that he put in a bit with kazoos in one of his concerts. We have to play that part at least four times before we can watch the rest of the dvd.:) She can identify his voice and asks for many of his songs to be replayed. And when she was a baby, and I'd run out of songs to sing her to sleep with, Can't Smile Without You worked in a pinch. So, she is a fourth generation Barry fan (my Nan liked him a lot too...she got it from her daughter. *grin*) Wow, I'm sure *that* would make him feel young.;)
I think you ask great questions.:)
I'm definitely full of wist today. I think it's getting better though.
And uhhh... Laura Ingalls was my entire world for a little while. I still enjoy written pictures into the past.
Oh and uhh... re:second child
I'm nearly seven years older than my sister. I wish we had been just a little closer in age (like 4 or 5 years, maybe) because we were too far apart to really share anything. When I was moving out of the house, she was still in elementary school, yanno? It's like we were in totally different time zones, or like we weren't raised by the same parents. And really, we weren't REALLY raised by the same parents. Oh, they were the same biologically and in name, but that's where the similarity stopped. I remember my parents when they were still young, in love, and uhh, together (they split when she was 8 and I was 15) GEEZE why am I telling you all this?
anyhow, after I had my first child, I had to really come to terms with myself and become more confident in my own body and in my ability to DO ANYTHING. So the second child was more of a challenge to myself to overcome my own perceived downfalls. And she has remained a challenge HEHEHEHE. Very different from the first one. Well heck, I don't think I can relate any of this back. Please forgive my senseless babblings.
ANIMAL!
I loves me some Muppets!
The best, tho, is the great cameo of Jim Henson with Kermit. I miss Jim Henson.
2nd pregnancies are amazing...
*hugs you*
Re: ANIMAL!
*hugs you once again*
But this time it has been so much wilder (and I'm less stressed).
I'm trying for number 3 (number 1 for dh.) I've had more than a few hopeful months, but no baby has come just yet. Actually she is here and around me, I'm just hoping she'll decide to come through me. :-)
I had an IUD in for 6 years and had it removed in February. We've been trying (or at least not preventing) since then.
I think I still have my Muppet glasses stored away. (The ones I bought at a thrift store or garage sale; the ones I had as a kid got broken. Are, in fact, the reason why I absolutely refuse to use actual glass glasses.)
If you will actually use them, I will probably make you a wintergift of them, assuming, of course, that I can, in fact, find them again. :)
With my luck, if I moved to CA, it'd fall into the ocean. :P
I'm thinking about it; I have a wonderful kid and don't really need another one. And, with only one, I don't have to split my attention. On the other hand, Tom really wishes he had a sibling. And I'm glad I have one. (Now.) And I could do two. (Long as I had extra help for those first couple of months.) So I dunno.
Yay, hat!
I hope your tree is still around. :)
Love you.
One slight correction though, Mama came to like Barry on her own. I can't remember the song that 'got' her though. I do know it's on the LIVE album, cuz I remember she and Auntie Ellen visiting us in Richmond and asking me to play it.
I only make the distinction between Mama finding Barry on her own & my infecting her - cuz reading your post I was starting to feel like a musical Typhoid Mary. *grin* I'd have to start signing things "Maniloonie Sharon". Come to think of it that's pretty much my nickname now.
Gee, I wonder if your tree *is* still there. That part of Sterling has been so developed since we lived there I'll bet at least 80 houses have been built on those 40 acres. Probably more. I doubt I could even find that gravel road we lived on. Shoot, the mailing address was something like RRT 1 Box 212.
love you
Mum
