Six years ago, I was in the hospital, terrified, hooked up to a number of things, waiting for my cervix to open and my child to emerge. They stuck the IV in my hand at noon on the 27th and she was born at roughly twenty to eight the next morning. The labor sucked (I didn't know anything about being induced, including the fact that it's so *fast* and hurts *so* much more than regular labor, because one gets hit with everything, all at once, instead of having hours for one's body to open. I *really* hope I go into labor naturally with futurebaby) but the delivery was amazing. I still remember how it felt...I could feel every inch of her and it was like nothing else.
darthgeek cut the cord and they laid her in my arms. There are no words for that moment.
Here's the multi-picture post from last year. I'm hoping I can either get the camera and computer talking or go to Kinkos and upload my pics from there, so y'all can see big ol' Six Year Old Sammy in the next couple days. But she doesn't look *that* much different...hasn't sprouted a third arm or anything. *Grin*
It is *tough* raising a kid...I would never say any different. But being a mama is something I've pretty much always wanted and while I may not be thrilled with every aspect of it, I'm so glad to have my Sammygirl.
She's so much fun. She's gonna be a music geek, like her mama and her Grannie. She likes kid songs, of course, but some of her very favorites are Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones, Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult & the version by H.I.M, lots of Barry Manilow and Oingo Boingo. She doesn't like scary movies, but loves both Nightmare Before Christmas & The Corpse Bride. She's not quite reading yet, but is on the cusp, and we spend a lot of time reading together. Right now, we're working our way through both Stuart Little and The Mouse & The Motorcycle. She absolutely *loves* making stuff, especially sculpting the air-dry clay I buy for her by the bucket.
She wants to go to ballet class, but we can't *find* any around here. There's a dance school about half an hour from here, but I can't find any information about the actual *classes* anywhere. So, I'm going to call them in the next few days and see what they've got to tell me.
While she's waiting to dance, she's going to take tumbling classes at the park down the street and around the corner from here. That starts the second week in April. She's quite pleased about the prospect.
She and Jeff and I are a perfect fit. We're lucky to have her.
Happy birthday, babygirl.

On the other hand, there's a whole lot to be said for raising children whose company you generally enjoy. I applaud you!
On the "will the next one hurt as much as the last one" front - I waited eight years between #1 and #2. I had the same experience with #1 that you did - nothingnothingnothingWHAMMO! It's part of why I waited so long between kids.
For my second, I trained like it was an Olympic event. I did kegels compulsively, I walked, I did all sorts of conditioning exercises that would improve my muscle tone and stamina. I went through Lamaze again and took home videos and PRACTICED until I felt confident that this time I'd recognize which stage I was in.
For the second I ended up being induced again, but this time, thanks to the hours of training, I was ready.
FOUR HOURS, START TO FINISH, NO PAIN MEDS NEEDED. They handed me my beautiful Baby Goddess and my husband and I high-fived and shouted "Who da Mommy? WHO DA MOMMY?" The best part was that, because I was so prepared, my older daughter was right there in the room sharing the whole thing with us. My stepmother quizzed her afterward, asking her if she wasn't scared. She admitted that she was scared. She was scared Mommy would have a boy.
Take heart - it can be good, too.
