(no subject)

The movie industry is blaming text messaging for the Summer Blockbusters flopping, saying that people being able to quickly let others know how completely awful a movie is *isn't* good for their ad campaigns, because those are designed to lure people in for the first big weekend and if they know that the movie sucks, they can't be bilked out of their nine bucks as efficiently.

Of course, if the movies were *better*, the text messaging would have brought more sales and the bigwigs would probably be thinking about giving out pagers w/texting ability with the tickets. But they probably don't want to be reminded of that. (The same way I don't want to be reminded of the hours I spent watching The Hulk and SWAT.)

Maybe, just maybe, this "innovation" will produce better movies in the long run.

We can hope.

Well, the article does point out that it works both ways.. buzz from "Pirates of the Caribbean" raised revenue overnight! But they are right, word of mouth isn't so much a buzz now, but more a flashfire.

Lazy bozos like myself that wait for video are probably a big problem, too!

Can we say "kill the messenger," boys and girls? I thought we could.

This is so ridiculous, it's hard even to get moderately upset over it. However, I love the idea. Instant word of . . . phone. :-)
