Dear McCain Campaign,

Could you stop using people's songs without permission now?

Jeeze.

Yayyyyy!

Yeah, that's pretty much it. *grin*

A Chinese zoo has given an orphan monkey its own guard dog to stop it being bullied by bigger primates.

"Whenever the baby monkey gets bullied, he dashes up and drives the others away. And the baby monkey is also very smart. Each time he smells danger he runs to jump on the dog's back and holds on tight.

The picture alone is worth the click.

I wonder if I'd have been a Bobby McFerrin fan from the very beginning if the video for Don't Worry, Be Happy *hadn't* had both Bill Irwin and Robin Williams in it. I've been a fan of Robin's since Mork & Mindy and Bill Irwin since Bette's (one-shot) variety show in the mid-eighties. Watching them both cavort with Bobby was great.

Then again, I'd have probably become a fan a year or two later when he performed at a benefit my mom took us to. He did an audience participation bit with the Peter Gunn theme. It was pretty damn perfect.

How cool! I was wondering where Ass over teakettle came from, and I found it on the first hit.

I can hardly remember a time when I didn't have a deep love and reverence for Maya Angelou. She's written a new book, and recorded a video introduction that you really should watch if you've liked any of her work.

I just restarted our subscription to Smithsonian. My grandparents got it when I was a kid, and the best thing about it was that the articles weren't broken up into a bunch of different parts. Nine times out of ten, they weren't broken up at all. This was a huge advantage when I was young, 'cause I used to get really confused trying to find the next bit in other magazines.

Oh, just squee. Sesame Street K'nex, including Super Grover.

This is a great entry about why not to support parental notification laws.

Especially this: First off, a law can’t force families to communicate. If a teenager has gotten to the point where she’d rather pay for and go through an abortion alone than ask her parents for help, her family most likely has problems that a form letter isn’t going to solve.

Oh my. Who was hotter, young Collichio or young Bourdain?.

I'm goin' with Chef Tom on this one, while not casting even *one* aspersion on Chef Tony.

Star Wars bowling balls.

I love the expression on Yoda's face.

~~~
Well, *this* poll must be from another universe, 'cause Dumbo should definitely be in the top ten Tear Jerker movie list.
Lovely eclipse photo.
Tim Gunn says"Don't ever wish to be a guest judge on the show! To be blunt, I don't know how the judges do what they do and as well as they do: The collections pass by quickly, you have to wrap your brain around each piece of each collection immediately, and you have to come to terms with some comparative assessment right away" as well as a lot of other interesting stuff.
Chances are very good that the McCain campaign (as well as the Obama campaign) has paid a fee to ASCAP or BMI or both, which gives them blanket permission to use any song on their lists. The artists may not like it, but they don't control who uses their music; the licensor does.
They have. And in at least some of the cases the band is split on their approval; e.g. several members of Heart have told the press they're fine with the campaign using "Barracuda" and Sammy Hagar has publically supported the use of "Right Now" as well.
*glee*
This is all your fault.
All your fault!
Thanks for the link on parental notification laws. I kind of intuitively knew the first part that passing a law doesn't magically turn a dysfunctional family into a loving one, but I didn't really understand what a maze getting the waiver would be. Though I was always against them.
One thing I always find stunning about all of this is how little concern is given to what happens to unwanted children after their reluctant mothers are forced to have them... Maybe that's beside the point but it always stuns me.
Also, the lack of understanding of psychological and verbal abuse is amazing too.
I refuse to watch Dumbo or allow any child around me to watch it. I think - Disney has a real thing about mothers being gone, but Dumbo is the worst of the lot.
i'm impressed that boys don't cry is on the tearjerker list. i mean, yes, it made me bawl my eyes out, but i'm still impressed.
Seriously, if I was bowling pin, I'd fall over in sheer terror at the Darth Vader ball. :P
Absolute agreement on Dumbo!
I wanted Korto to win, though. :)
Love you.
Oh mama! I'm thinking I'd take Tom to the prom and then meet up with Tony for some after-affair fun. ;-) Man, does he look like a Ramone, or what?
The puppy and monkey is just too darned cute!
I'm really glad that Leanne won PR. I liked Korto's designs but Leannes were truly original and *new*.
