This is very cool. Photos from Life Magazine of rock stars and their parents in the seventies

Charles Vess and David Spence work on a fountain for the Barter Theatre. This is the story of casting and placing the base. I'd find it dead interesting even if I wasn't a Charles Vess fan.

We had a Thanksgiving dinner that couldln't be beat. Brining for the win! I give thanks to Alton Brown, who introduced me to the idea a few years ago and
ruisseau for mentioning it in her journal, which reminded me to actually do it this year. :)
I also made sweet potato casserole for the first time ever. 'Cause I don't *like* sweet potato casserole (it's a texture thing), so tasting it to see if it was "right" is mostly out. But Jeff really likes it and Sam was very into the idea of something for dinner with marshmallows. And they both said it was very good. So I'll keep that recipe and it'll all be good.:) I also did the stuffing (from scratch this year), green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, mashed turnips and mashed potates. Sam really liked the stuffing...I'm pleased 'cause she's been saying "I don't lllllliiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee stuffing" for a few months now, increasingly as we got near T'giving. I told her that the stuff in the turkey tastes different than the stuff from the box, but she was dubious. Maybe *next* time she'll believe me. Yeah, probably not, but I can hope. ;)
It was a good and relaxing day. We watched Wall-E while we ate. Sam and Jeff were rock stars and cleaned up the kitchen. It was all very nice. :)

Ooooh. Recycled Subway Cars Turned into Studios in London. They look really cool and fun. Lots of windows, too.

Dear ghods. I understand why people have killed themselves after/while listening to Gloomy Sunday now. Not that I'm suicidal in the least, but there's no light today. There is freezing rain and light fog though. If I was still a romantic, suicidal fifteen-year-old, this might have been too much temptation. It's a good thing I was living in Southern California then. Not much freezing rain in Temecula.
I do love this song though. The Elvis Costello version is one of my top three favorites.

darthgeek found a great lamp at Target last week, so I can do needlework at my desk again. I'd had one of the Ikea lamps over here, and it worked fine, till the tall skinny part decided it wanted a divorice from the base. It fell over, whacked me on the head (more surprising than painful) and basically went *thpppt* to its lighting obligations. It lasted a good long time though, especially for a seven dollar lamp. I do hope that when this one dies, it goes gently into that good night, and doesn't cause any whackage along the way.

If you could play Jenga with cans, and make something cool with it that didn't topple, that would describe the Canstruction 2008 exhibit at the World Financial Center. Since the artists were from top architectural and engineering firms across North America, the results actually were cool. To magnify the coolness, all food will be donated to City Harvest after the exhibit closes on December 2.
I think the panda's my favorite.

This is my very, very part of A Colbert Christmas. What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
I couldn't get the video to play in Firefox and had to switch to IE (love the IE Tab extension), but that could just be weirdness in my setup.

darthgeek's cold is *much* better. This is me, relieved. :)
