(no subject)

This cream pitcher is *far* too cute.

We've recently started Charlie on solids. And *wow* has she taken to it. She's been very interested in what's going on when we're eating and seemed to be wondering where her plate was. We started her on rice cereal with a bit of milk and some applesauce mixed in. She liked it, but liked the applesauce by itself *Far* better. The best thing so far has been bananas. She ate nearly half a jar in one sitting, which is *huge* for a kid her size.

I picked up a few things of baby food at the market, but have a food mill and wanted to make my own. So, I bought some sweet potatoes and made 'em into mush. I'd found these little ice cube trays (about a third of the size of a regular cube) at Goodwill a while ago and figured they'd be perfect for freezing baby food in portions. I planned to pop the cubes out, put 'em in marked baggies and use a bit of warm milk to bring everything up to room temp.

The only problem is, I haven't been able to get the cubes out of the tray. Bit frustrating, that. Sure, I could let it defrost and use one of Charlie's spoons to get the stuff out, but that would ruin the whole portion thing. If I have time tomorrow, I'm going to whack the tray on the counter a few times, to see if that'll loosen things up. If they never come out, I'll have to think of another way to store the purrees. Who knew baby food was so complicated?

I *loved* last night's episode of CSI. "He's dead, Jim."

I'm trying to post more...we'll see how that works out. :) I'm also trying to respond more...so far that tends to be more "responding in my head while holding Charlie and meaning to actually write things when I get the chance".

Spray the ice cube trays with "Pam" first, then no problem.

The cream pitcher is indeed cute but, dude, $25 for a coffee scoop???

when you get the cubes out, you could try lining the trays with plastic wrap in the future. That way you can just pull on the edge of the plastic and pop the cubes out. I can't believe Charlie is already on solids. My how the time flies!

turn the ice tray upside down, run warm water gently over the spot you want to loosen, keeping your hand under it just in case, turn back over and it should pop out. it won't melt too much of anything for it to matter.

[livejournal.com profile] aiela and I were yelling nasty things at the screen during the last moments of the episode. Just let Wedges have their happy time!!

(Of course, if they plan to have any other episodes that involve Liz Vassey in alien bikinis, we're OK with that.)

I made all of Bree's baby food. We never bought any jar baby food and it was dead easy. I used "Feed Me I'm Yours" by Vicky Lasky as my guide. I have an extra copy and I'd be happy to send it to you.

Oh, that would be great. Thank you. :)

Our address is here.

Okey Dokey. I'll send you the revised copy I have, which I bought a few years back, just in case someone might need it. I love how that works. :)

We skipped purees altogether and just waited for Ronan to take the initiative. About the only time I spoon-fed him was when the adult food was liquid/puree (soup). Messy, maybe. So much easier than dealing with babyfood, though.

Val never had a jar of babyfood when she was a baby and she likewise made her own for both her children...blender and ice cube tray are our friends.
Pears, peaches and bananas...the pears and peaches canned in light to no syrup...and rice cereal is the most hypoallergenic cereal there is, followed by barley and oats.

You'll do just fine... so glad Charlie is catching up. Enjoy your family :)

For the baby-food, you might try a little non-stick spray first, or running the back of the tray under a little warm water before you try to pop them loose. I'm so glad Charlie is eating like a little stevedore, too. *g*

I loved the guy in the morgue, who ended up pissing off the doc. That was so funny!

Run the back of the ice cube tray under warm water for a couple of seconds. They'll pop right out.

I got the package of clothes yesterday! Thank you so much. Ramona's worn like three of the things so far. All cute. xoxoxo!!!

I made all of Jay's food with the book "Blender Baby Food." I would just run a knife down the edge of the cube and use that to pop it out. This time around I'm planning to try and find the silicon ice trays since the cheap plastic ones ended up cracking a lot.
