(no subject)

In trying to figure out when Arnold Schwarzenneger last made a good movie (1993 by my count...actually, that's when he'd stopped making them...maybe 1992 then...I'd go check, but I'm too bloody lazy.) I found out that a new Terminator movie is supposed to come out this year. Jeff and I were discussing it and I said "Well, it might be good, it might suck." I don't really like the first movie, but the second is among my favorites.

Then I read the synopsis.
~~~
John Connor is now 18, and a female terminator, called T-X or Terminatrix, is after him . Another T-800 is sent back through time to protect John once again on the verge of the rise of the machines.
~~~

And while there is a possibility that it may be better than T2, my first thought was "Terminatrix? Oh yeah, that's gonna suck."

Does the concept of continuity mean nothing to these people?

Remember the first movie? Reese was telling the cops that just before he and Terminator came back, Skynet had been beaten. The was was over. The Terminator was a last chance shot. It failed.

So where the hell did the T-1000 and the new T-X come from?

I just want the first movie on DVD, and I'll be happy.

Just to interject....

I believe the T1000 came from the fact that the arm of the original Terminator was left behind and the technology (in the sense of a time line) was left for Skynet to build itself again in other dimensions/times etc. In a round about way establishing the existence of the T1000, a further evolution of terminators. It's a MAJOR stretch mind you, but remotely possible in moviedom.

Come on Gesi. Girl power is all the rage in Hollywood these days.

For example...

Tomb Raider
Charlie's Angels
Power Puff Girls
The Matrix
What about Linda Hamilton? (especially in T 2)

So I like the idea of a female looking terminator. The story is a stretch I agree. That's Hollywood for you.

Tom :)

Oh, it isn't the idea of a female terminator that makes me think T3 will suck. (Though, it will make downloads faster.) It's specifically the term Termanatrix. I'm pretty sure that if it didn't sound like domanatrix the writers or whomever came up with the idea would have just called her Terminator # or T-#.

If she has *any* weapon that's whip-like, I'm gonna hafta put my stompy boots on and go visit the creators of the film. *grin*

*laugh* Good point, sorry I missed it the first time. *sheepish grin*

Plot Hole

yeah, but there's a big fucking plot hole in T-2 *anyway.* Ok, in the first movie they claimed that whatsisname couldn't bring back a whole shitpot of gear with him was because you could only send back living tissue. now, with the T-800, i could deal, ok, that was a shell of squishy living tissue encasing a metal skeleton. i can buy that, if i stretch for it. but the T-1000 was entirely fucking Metal!! it *couldn't* have gone back.
