Van Halen single. Ooookay. Not everything I was hoping for. My main question is "Why is it so *SLOW*"? I know they're all old and junk, but this is a bit ridiculous. Sent from my BlackBerry
It just kind of...sucks. If it were sped up, I think it would be better, but I'm not sure it'll ever reach *good*. Video here. That's the official video...the one they want to use to sell cds/mp3s. Honestly, the song sounds like a demo.
Jeff and I had a terrifying conversation. Because Van Halen III (ie the one we don't talk about with Gary Cherone, whom we disavow) was pretty terrible and we never listened to the whole thing, maybe this is what Van Halen sounds like now.
I lost faith in Eddie a long time ago, but I was really hoping for good music from the band. Maybe Mikey took the magic with him. He seems *really* happy with Chickenfoot (and *their* album was good *grin*).
All righty then, listened to the song three times. Didn't watch the video - just let it play, I have found that when I *watch* videos I miss the nuance in the lyric/vocals &/or musicianship.
My gut reaction: the lyrics are a waste of breath. Yeah, I know it is only Rock n' Roll and not meant to be great art. I also recognize that John wrote those awe inspiring words " I am the Walrus - goo-goo-ca-joob " also decidedly NOT something to be carved in stone. Still, I don't see myself walking around the house singing "tattoo - tattoo!. . .I've got Elvis on my elbow - when I flex Elvis talks. . ."
I agree, the tempo does drag. Makes you want to sort of give them an NCIS head-slap to move it along.
It isn't bad; it is merely bland. Which in the land of Rock is pretty much a sin of major proportions.
Annnnnnnnnnnd having said all that, I seriously doubt that Eddie, DLR, 'Ziggy' & 'Not Mike' give a rat's patootie what I think.
I don't know. I like it. It feels more like the earlier Van Halen albums... Dave has a good vocal vibe going, and Eddie's playing something interesting for the first time since "1984", Alex is doing his thing, and Wolfgang has a great bass line going there ~ technically superior, and has a good groove, too.

Are you telling me they have released a ballad? Or is it just boring and *feels* slow.
