We went to see a double feature of Wreck It Ralph & Hotel Transylvania on Saturday. The drive-in is a great place for people who aren't completely over their colds to watch movies guilt-free. :D

The short before Wreck It Ralph, Paper Man, was even better than I'd hoped. I wanted to see it again as soon as it was done.

Wreck It Ralph was *marvelous*. It felt very, very right. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Hotel Transylvania wasn't horrible. It was nice. Not good, not bad. Just nice. There were a few funny moments, the story was perfectly fine. It wasn't dead boring and it didn't make us talk about how bad and or boring it was on the drive home.

Okay, tell me about kids tablets. Not like the iPad or Kindle Fire. Like the Leap Pad Explorer. Can't be V-tech, 'cause I got Charlie a V-tech quasi-tablet a few months ago and we went through three before I gave up. They should *NOT* be that fragile, and it wasn't like she was trying to bounce it off the ceiling or anything. She was sitting and relaxing and having a great time. And their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

So *anyway*, I'd love to get her a tablet type thing but I'd like it to not make her sad after a couplethree months. I'm into getting her the Leap Pad if it won't die quickly. Figured I'd get her the explorer, case and adapter for her birthday and several extra games for Yule.

Island of the Blue Dolphins was one of my favorite books as a kid. I remember that's how I learned about how if the ocean retreats after an earthquake a tsunami is inevitable (I think the author called it a tidal wave in the book). When that tsunami hit Thailand and I read accounts of how people followed the ocean out as it retreated, I was like, "WTF? Didn't they ever read Island of the Blue Dolphins?"

That was kind of an ethno-centric thought and I felt like an ass afterward for having it. This video if the incoming wave is scary.

Should I just go the Ralph movie totally cold?

I think so. Though, the world they build is complete enough that knowing some of what's coming won't ruin things.

I have no sensible comment, I just feel happier for having read this post.
