Catching-up
Sep. 18th, 2004 08:27 pmWatching VH1 Classic. (No commercials, a few breaks here and there and they play (Get this) *Videos*. How weird is that?) , while writing and doing other stuff. Judas Priest...Rob's singing "I'm your turbo lover, better run for cover"...I hear "I'm your turtle lover, better run for cover", which made me laugh my ass off and comment that I wouldn't have to run all that fast. That made Sammy ask what's up...and I realize, again, that there are just some things you can't really explain.

DC Children's museum tragedy averted by the B'more Science Center. It's *so* nice there. Very light filled and airy, and damn near everything is hands on. We all had a blast. Kiddo couldn't have been happier hanging out with her grandparents. She and Mikeo rode the merry go round near the museum three times...he was going to take her around again, but Mum and I said No. Kid doesn't eat much as it is...we don't need her barfing as well.;)
~~~
Jeff and I love Sam more than I can say...and it's just so nifty to watch her interact with other people who feel exactly the same way about her. It was funny...Mum told her not to do something, and Sam kept it up. So I said "Sammy, Grannie Chuckie is *my* mama...so when she tells you not to do something, it's like me telling you not to do it twice." I'm not sure if it made a difference, but it amused me.
darthgeek and my anniversary was wonderful. Very relaxed. And we got Mexican food out of the deal. How can you beat that?
I still can't believe it's been five/six years. (We realized we were in love on Sept. 15th 1998. We were going to get married at the beginning of September, so I figured why not go the whole way and get married on our relationship anniversary? One less date to remember.) It doesn't *feel* like such a long span of time should. I can *remember* when he wasn't part of my life, but a small part of my mind still asks where he is in the memories.
He's a good guy. He puts up with a lot from me...and I put up with a lot from him. Which is, I guess, how it's supposed to be. We've had some truly horrific things happen, and there have been times when I was sure we wouldn't last another week. But, for all that, I wouldn't give up a day with him (I might change a couple things that *happened* on those days, but that's different, I think), I'm looking forward to being little old people on a porch together (remember Carol Burnett and Harvey Corman's old married couple?), and I'm looking forward to all the moments that'll get us there.
Sammy's got a bike now! There were four to choose from and three she was enchanted with...Princess, Dora and a nifty motorcycle-type (Or perhaps I should say "motorlessscycle")...I think Dora won out because it has both Backpack and Map on the handlebars. We took her out to Ft.McHenry, wandered around there for a while and then brought the bike out. She had a bit of trouble at the very beginning, but she got the hang of it quickly. She's getting good at steering and even remembers to brake most of the time. She grins the whole time...well, except when she's turning. That takes lots of concentration after all.
Of course, it's been stormy since my parents left, so the bike is living in the back of our van till the rains receded...it's either that or have her asking every five minutes if she can ride. (The backyard is definitely not suited to it. Maybe we'll have it paved next year.;)
~~~
We discovered that she's not scared in arcades. This is big, 'cause babygirl is *Not* into loud noises...we took her in the middle of a weekday and I think that's how we'll carry on, 'cause I don't think she'd be too happy there at three on a Saturday, but she was really jazzed while we were there. So, yay.:)

Mum taught me to make a dress and a pair of pants from a pattern. I "knew" but am far better at hand sewing and it's easier to learn something like this when you can go "Wait...what do they want me to do here? It seems like it's written in English, but I can't figure it out."
Did you know that when sewing pants, one turns a leg right side out, puts it into the inside out leg and then sews them together? That made my head nearly fall off. I was reading the directions and Mum could just tell when I got to that part. I think she was expecting that reaction. We weathered that storm and the pants fit kiddo perfectly. It was almost as if they'd been made for her. ;-)
So, sometime this week, I'm going to try it myself. That should be interesting. I'm definitely going to wait till Sammy's asleep, 'cause concentration is the key.
The sewing machine working will do wonderful things for my pillows...I'm still doing the fronts by hand, but can do the backs in three minutes on the machine. Niftiness.:)

Jeff bought me Sims2 for our anniversary. Apparently, he never wants to see me again.;) It looks *really* interesting. As much as I liked the original Sims, the game got dead boring after a while. Which could explain why so many people think up interesting ways for their sims to die. *Grin*

Of course, I reallytrulyreally miss Mum now. This once a year thing sucks. But the visits are wonderful. We had so much fun...we went everywhere and did so much stuff...and now Jeff and I have a list of places to go again. Especially Mt.Vernon which was remarkably nifty. Even if I didn't get past the gift shop. (My hip wasn't happy with days full of walking and threatened to leave. So I wandered around the gift shop, had a snack and read for a bit. Even if I didn't get to see the many-sided barn, it was still nice.:)
~~~
I'm wandering back through old entries, but if there's something you think I *need* to see, leave me a link.:) Pictures soon, after I'm done processing them.
