myschyf: (Mama&Baby Polar Bear)
Thursday already. This week has skated on by.

Once I got the anxiety about not having the van/acquiring a new vehicle out (in three places, even!), I'm feeling better about the whole thing. This doesn't mean I won't have the "Oh dear ghods, what are we doing?!"s from time to time, but the miasma has lifted.

~~~
First day of "officially" homeschooling the child went beautifully. We got the box from Calvert on Tuesday. I was thinking of starting her on the first Monday in September (or maybe the first Monday in October, so she could practice being a Supreme Court Justice ;), but she was so excited about the whole thing that I took a day to get used to the materials and then we went for it. I think this is going to be fabulous.
Of course, we'll have our up days and our down days, but she's getting this stuff, right off the bat, and she's not giving up.
See, she's had this problem for a long while now that, when something gets tough, she just stops, turns inward and doesn't want to do it any longer. (She gets this from me. I don't know where I get it from. Stupid genetics.) But, I explained that this was school time, not regular time, and that just couldn't happen during school time. That if she didn't understand something, we'd go over it and over it, in as many different ways as we could think of, and we'd ask other people for help (Hi, other people!) if we couldn't think of any other different ways to get it across to her, but we couldn't give up. And she understood. It was marvelous. She was laid back and didn't *worry* about mistakes. I was thrilled.
Mum, she even worked on reading the letter that you sent with the Mini Page, and she did well too. Usually, she tries for a moment then gives up when it's handwriting, but I reminded her that Granny had written this *for* her, and it was very clear writing. She looked closer and realized she could read it. I'm so damn proud of my kid.
And yeah, she definitely knows it. :)
Is there anyone on my friends list who'd like a copy of The Princess Bride on dvd? I want to buy a copy of the Dread Pirate Roberts Edition, but there's no reason to have three, 'cause we've still got the copy [livejournal.com profile] koriandre gave us waaaay back when (in storage). But that one we'll keep anyway, 'cause she gave it to us. :) Annnnyway, if anyone would like ours, I'll put a post-it on the dvd case w/your name and address, and when we buy the new addition (in a month or three), shall pop it in a padded envelope, probably post-it and all, and mail it off to your hot little hands.
~~~

Speaking of storage, once we've got the car thing done, we're going to go get everything from storage and put it in the garage, to go through at our leisure. Except the kitchen table and my huge microwave, which will be living in the kitchen right away. And then, I'll go through all the book boxes and stop missing my stuff. And then we'll put the bookcases all over the house and the babies can come up from the garage. *grin*

~~~
I think I've said that before. Oh well, just in case I didn't, I'm leavin' it.
