myschyf: (Sam & I)
We went for a drive today and ended up at the Monocacy Aquaducts, one of the remaining parts of the C&O canal (this bit is near Poolesville MD, if that helps anyone). We decided to get Sam out of the car and go for a walk, as this was a *beautiful* area.

I wasn't so much expecting to go for a walk, so I was wearing my ankle length gauze over silk skirt, black and grey tunic-length top, burgundy tights and black mid-shin high heeled platform boots. (Yeah, the ones that made me go splat on the stairs on NY Eve, while I was holding Sam...I wasn't planning on climbing stairs, so I figured I'd be ok.)

We walked through a lovely grassy area, with woods on both sides, to the canal itself (or maybe the aquaduct itself...I'm a bit hazy on which bit was which...)...it was made of stone, with a wrought iron fence...absolutely beautiful.

I'm not quite sure how it happened...Jeff thinks I didn't raise my foot high enough when stepping, I think I stumbled and wasn't able to regain my balance. All I really know is that my left ankle twisted (I heard something pop, but it isnt' broken or even all that swollen) and I went down hard, first on my right knee, then flat, with my hands bracing the fall.

There goes *that* pair of tights. (And Lane Bryant doesn't even *make* that color any longer. *sigh*)

It took me a while to get up, mainly 'cause I couldn't figure out which leg to put the pressure on...but I can walk and all that. I think tomorrow won't be much fun, but, all in all, things turned out far better than they could have.

In short, I'm ok, Fishie's ok and we got to watch a train go across the bridge, over the water, from the canal, which was nifty.

Still...*ow*.

In other news, on the way back, we saw a tree filled with what I think were some sort of vulture...the tree was quite near the road and those birds were *huge*...we saw two flying and the wing span was truly impressive...their wings reminded me of hawks wings, and the outline when they were perched made me think of eagles. I'll have to check a few sites and see if I can find them.

But right now, I've got a Sammygirl to cuddle to sleep.
