It's not every day that a former Facts of Life cast member holds forth on borderline methods of child abuse. But behold Blair's defense of "hot saucing," the child-disciplinary practice that's sweeping the nation:
Lisa Whelchel, who played Blair on the popular 1980s TV series The Facts of Life, is an advocate and practitioner of "hot saucing." Whelchel, the author of Creative Correction: Extraordinary Ideas for Everyday Discipline, says the practice worked for her children when other disciplinary actions did not.
"It does sting and the memory stays with them so that the next time they may actually have some self-control and stop before they lie or bite or something like that," Whelchel said on ABC News' Good Morning America.
Why would someone *do* that to their kid? That fucking hurts and all the kid's going to remember is that their parent is a jerk! What if the kid keeps lying? Do you go to hotter and hotter sauces? What about the one Jeff and I sent Mikeo for Holidays one year...it was some kind of insanity sauce and came with a skull keychain. How about those sauces with Death in the title?
I remember reading something akin to this in one of the Little House books...Pa was telling Laura about when he was a kid. He'd lied to his grandmother and she took out her scissors and snipped little cuts in the tip of his tongue. He said something like "It hurt, but I remembered that next time I wanted to tell a lie, and I told the truth."
Yeah.
